Did you ever wake up on the wrong side of the bed? Or, experience a morning when the air around you is filled with stodginess so heavy that you feel like a lead balloon? A morning when everything is gray and grim?
One such morning, I called an emergency meeting with my angels. “Look,” I said plaintively, “My attitude and outlook are pretty sour this morning. I really need some help to change it for the better.”
Usually, I hear or sense something in return, but this morning, there was no response.
“Well, that’s a fine how-do-you-do,” I huffed to myself. With a sigh, I walked into the bookstore, uttering a final, “Please, angels!” in my mind, kind of like a P.S. on a letter. Silence.
For the first half hour, I didn’t have much time to let the bad mood affect me as the phone was ringing and there were customers to assist with finding books and other tasks. Then, however, there was a momentary lull and the grimness from earlier crept back into my mind. The storm cloud was still over my head.
In the next moment, a mother and her two children stopped near by the customer service desk. I walked over to them and asked if there was anything I could help them find.
The mother asked about a particular book and as I was answering her, I noticed that the one little boy, maybe about three years old, started walking around me blowing softly in the air as if he were the wind moving invisible bubbles in the air. He was smiling and laughing softly as he moved and I wondered at the sight. For several moments, he continued to flit around me like a butterfly in the breeze. All the while he kept blowing softly into the air.
His mother, only slightly distracted, said, “I really don’t know what he’s doing or why.”
“I know,” I said quietly. The angels were using this young boy to lighten my mood with literal breaths of fresh air.
Now, I began smiling! My mood softened further as I stood still for a few more moments watching this boy ‘move’ the air around me, like an air-bending avatar. I reveled in this air-born gift from the angels.
“Let’s fly a kite,” I said to the boy, and we both blew softly and made the kite fly very high indeed.
All too soon, it ended. As the boy walked away to catch up with his mother, he looked over his shoulder at me, his face alight with a joyful smile. I smiled back. We both knew and understood the message and the gift. Request granted.
Fresh air, the breath of angels, made the difference that day, at the right time and place.
Good day! Melinda Grohol
